Fifth

A single ballerina in a black tutu stands on a pale, featureless ground, photographed from directly above so that her shadow stretches away from her across the frame. The body and its shadow read as two versions of the same shape — one solid, one thrown.

Almost the entire frame is empty. That emptiness is what gives the figure its weight; there is nothing competing with her, and nothing to establish how large the space around her actually is.
